- Abstract
- The effect of an endurance training program on middle aged servicemen of various ranks and occupations was investigated. Using the functional relationship between heart rate and workload, the cardiorespiratory fitness expressed as maximum aerobic power was measured before and after both six and 12 weeks training. Six and 12 weeks training for 30 minutes per day, three days per week produced a significant reduction in subcutaneous fat, in working pulse rate and provided a substantial improvement in aerobic power in middle aged men. It is concluded that the endurance program undertaken at CFB Borden for middle aged men does result in a significant improvement in cardiovascular fitness.
