Abstract
Most practical inventory models make the assumptions that the failure process is Poisson in time, and thus implicitly assume that in the failure process the equipments in question have reached some kind of "steady" state. When fleets of equipment are sufficiently large these assumptions are usually an excellent approximation. When fleets of equipments are small and the failure process of the individual equipments is not Poisson then one hesitates to rely on the usual models. A practical problem of this nature is studied.
