Abstract
The purpose of the report is to provide the equipment manager with a practical method by which he may determine whether a piece of high cost/low density equipment has reached the end of its economic life and, as a result, is incurring excessive maintenance costs. In such decisions, the magnitude of the initial capital outlay must be balanced by the size of future costs associated with maintaining the equipment. The study attempts to quantify this balance.
