Abstract
The paper discusses the determination of a replacement policy for individual vehicles in a fleet based on the cumulative costs of repairs so as to "minimize" the total expected cost of operating the fleet over some finite period. The repair/replacement policy can vary with time as well as with vehicle age. Cumulative repair cost is used as a replacement criterion in order to be able to forecast which vehicle should require replacement in a coming period in addition to how many as given by limits on individual repair cost derived in DMS Staff Note 27/75.
