Abstract
This paper describes the problem for any set of items which are at least partial substitutes for each other, what is the best subset of these items to hold in inventory. The cost examined here include variable purchasing, ordering and holding costs as well as a number of fixed costs. The basic model is designed so that a reasonable estimation of the best solution can be achieved with inputs of information which are relatively easy to obtain.
