Abstract
The management of repairables involves three basic risks, which must be kept in mind during initial provisioning. The report is broken into three parts. The first section deals with general objectives, and their role in establishing specific criteria by which sparing distributions can be judged. The second part discusses the random nature of failures, and how this uncertainty can be dealt with. In the third section, uncertainty due to parameter estimation and model shortcomings is raised.
