Abstract
The dynamic analysis of a structure partially or fully submerged in a dense fluid can be a difficult problem. The finite-element based program COUPLE was developed to analyze interactions between structures and either contained or surrounding fluids. This report discusses recent modifications to COUPLE designed to increase its capabilities, including the addition of regular and infinite 8-noded brick elements. Validation analyses were performed on rectangular and cylindrical acoustic cavities, a submerged clampled plate, and a submerged cylinder. The results showed excellent agreement with both theory and other numerical investigations.
