Abstract
The objective of this report is to develop expressions for the performance of an underwater localization system. The localization system under consideration is passive and employs two submerged omnidirectional receivers in a deep ocean multipath environment. The performance measure of interest is the variance of the localization estimator. Two sources of error are considered in the development of the performance measures: the error in the cross-correlation time delay estimates caused by ocean noise and the error caused by random receiver perturbations.
