Abstract
Project Swiftsure involved the destruction of an amount of two chemical warfare agents, mustard and lewisite, the decontamination of a large amount of agent contaminated metal, and a small amount of toxic chemicals, including neutralized nerve agent. The Canadian Department of National Defence and the Department of Supply and Services, through the Defence Research Establishment Suffield contracted Western Research Partnership, a member of BOVAR Inc. to perform the work at CFB Suffield over a two year period, beginning in January 1990 and ending in December 1991. Throughout the course of the project a number of modifications were implemented. This report summarizes the original concept of performing the disposal of the hazardous waste and how the concept evolved. In addition, the technology employed by Chem-Security Ltd. in the discharge of their contractual obligations is discussed. TRUNCATED
