Abstract
The study evaluated the blood lactate response to the Expres Step test. It also compared the correlation between blood lactate (LA) + VO2 max to Heart rate + VO2 max. 137 male CF personnel participated in the study. LA was measured in all subjects after each stage of the test. 78 of the subjects also had their VO2 max measured. The results showed that increasing stages of the Expres step test were associated with increasing LA. At stage 5 of the Expres step test LA ranged from 1 to 7 mmol/L, while HR ranged from 72 to 192. The correlation between VO2 max + LA was -.71; for HR + VO2 max, it was -.36. The results suggest that LA is a better predictor of VO2 max and could be used with the Expres step test to better estimate VO2 max.
