Abstract
The May/June 1991 MCM trial conducted off the entrance to Esquimalt harbour included a route survey phase in which a sea lane, 14 km long and 500 m wide, was mapped. This memorandum outlines the planning and execution of this detailed route survey. The actual route coverage and search rate are compared to the presurvey estimates. The survey covered over 7.25 square km and was mapped in 19.2 hours, giving a coverage rate of 0.37 square km per hour. Ninety-seven percent of the intended route was surveyed with 83% of the area surveyed from at least two aspects.
