DIELECTRIC AND DYNAMIC MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ATBN-CONTAINING THERMOSETS

Abstract
Five epoxy-based thermoset composites containing amine-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (ATBN) elastomer were prepared by prescribed thermal treatments. The thermoset consisted of a rigid matrix of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A which was cured with the U.S. equivalent of Versamid 125 or Ancamide-260A. The curing kinetics of the thermoset, ATBN/Epoxy blends were monitored using dielectric measurements for a fixed frequency of 1kHz and the dielectric properties of the cured samples were measured over a temperature range 77 K to 350 K. The data and those obtained from a earlier study under the contract "Preparation and Mechanical Relaxation of Novel Thermosets for Vibration Damping Applications" have been interpreted and discussed with reference to the literature.
