Abstract
In November 1990, CRAD engaged Acres to conduct the environmental audits of DRES and DREO in accordance with the audit manual previously developed by Acres. The overall goals of the audits were: to strengthen environmental management at the two establishments and to help implement DND's commitment to an 'anticipate-and-prevent' mode of operation rather than a remedial one, and to reassure management and the public that DND is giving adequate attention to environmental matters at the establishments. The specific objective of the audites was to conduct a systematic and detailed investigation of local procedures and practices: to verify their compliance with legal requirements, departmental policies, and accepted practices; to identify and assess risks from unregulated practices; and to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental management systems. The findings of the environmental audit of DREO are documented in the present report.
