Abstract
The program called VASGEN for generating finite element models through the use of parametric cubic modelling based on cubic curves, Coons patches and tri-cubic hyperpatches is presented. The program is designed to produce geometry and element connectivity data for use by the finite element analysis program VAST. It provides capabilities for mesh generation, the linking of discrete meshed curves, patches and hyperpatches and bandwidth minimization. The program graphics facilities allow the user to plot both the geometric model and the finite element model. Notable enhancements within version #4 of VASGEN include: modelling using parametric cubic splines; generation of patch intersection curves; generation of degenerate entities; meshing with axisymmetric elements; and grid biasing toward entity boundaries and/or stiffener locations.
