Abstract
The report reviews typical laser weld overlaying applications and techniques currently used by industry, or in the research and development stage. The information is reviewed with the goal of applying the technology to laser weld overlaying of worn valves manufactured from nickel-aluminum bronze. A critical discussion of the information contained in the technical literature with respect to how it pertains to the intended application, is included. The use of lasers for repair welding of these components offers the advantage of lower heat input which reduces the probability of less corrosion resistant microstructural phases forming.
