EVALUATION OF A PROTOTYPE LINEAR INITIATION SYSTEM

Abstract
A linear initiation system consisting of a commercial line wave generator and tetrytol booster is proposed to detonate a linear self-forging fragment charge. Tests are described in which an ultra high speed camera was used to measure the curvature of the detonation front. A time delay of approximately 2.6 mu s was measured across the detonation front, which was 250 mm in length. The time delay is due almost entirely to the line wave generator.
