Abstract
Wear and lubrication are two key areas of study in the field of ceramics for diesel engines. An approach is outlined within for studying these by means of a wear rig designed to simulate conditions at the top of the cylinder wall where high wear rates occur. An extensive literature survey support the wear rig design and experimental procedure. Techniques are also presented for detecting ceramic debris in lubricating oil.
