LASER ACTION AND AMPLIFICATION IN A CO2 ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE VOLUME DISCHARGE

Abstract
A CO2 atmospheric pressure volume discharge having a total length of 7 metres has been operated both as a laser and an amplifier. Laser energies greater than 6 joules at efficiencies of more than 3 percent were produced. Comparable performance was obtained from the system used as an amplifier.
