- Abstract
- The role of the optical resonator is first viewed through a qualitative explanation of the initiation of laser action. The standard nomenclature of the literature is next established along with the geometrical stability conditions. Then the notion of the equivalent resonator is introduced with a format directly applicable to our TEA-CO2 lasers. The intensity distributions, the eigenvalues, the divergence and the focussing properties of the resonance modes are discussed in some detail.
