Abstract
The design, construction and operation of a facility for hydrolytic destruction of the chemical agent mustard is described. (The facility was used to destroy mustard stored at DRES since World War II.) Preliminary laboratory experiments were scaled to intermediate field experiments in which 50 gallon batches of mustard were successfully destroyed. Finally, a facility for routine hydrolysis of mustard in 1200 gallon batches was designed and contructed.
