WAKE SURVEY EXPERIMENTS WITH THE DREA INTERFERENCE MODEL

Abstract
The DREA Interference Model represents a drive pod with a pusher propeller at the tail, located at the intersection of a flapped foil and its supporting strut. This memorandum presents the results from a set of wake surveys done in the plane of the propeller using 5-hole pressure probes. The experiments were performed in the NAE 2 x 3 metre wind tunnel at a Reynolds Number of 3.2 x E6. The results indicate that within the range of variables considered in these experiments, the impact of the wake on propeller design for this type of configuration is not particularly severe.
