Abstract
A popular application of array processors, such as the Floating Point Systems AP120B, lies in Monte Carlo simulations requiring vector data manipulations. Such simulations often demand large amounts of synthetic random data; hence, a reliable pseudo-random number generator (RNG) is required. The paper discusses the design and implementation of such a generator on the FPS AP120B. The linear congruential sequence forms the basis of the proposed method, with an additional shuffling algorithm to further randomize the sequence for use in random vector generation. Results are presented for several standard tests of the characteristics of RNG's when applied to the proposed generator and to the two generators available in the FPS software library.
