Abstract
Continuous-wave purely chemical laser action has been demonstrated in a longitudinal flow laser. This laser operates on a population inversion in CO sub 2 produced by energy transfer from vibrationally excited HC1 molecules, themselves produced in the reaction between C1 atoms and HI. The C1 atoms were generated spontaneously, in the laser tube, upon mixing NO and C10 sub 2.
