A STUDY OF "IN-AND-DOWN" SCATTERING WITH 137Cs GAMMA RADIATION

Abstract
Dose distributions produced by scattered transmitted radiation from one barrier that penetrated a second barrier at right angles to the first, were measured for 137 Cs gamma radiation (0.66 Mev) incident on walls of wood and concrete. The dose produced by the "in-and-down" radiation depended on the angle of scatter from the first barrier, on the solid angle subtended by the second barrier and on the thicknesses of the barriers and could not be predicted analytically. The dose distributions produced by the scattered radiation from the first barrier showed reasonable agreement with Monte Carlo calculations.
