Abstract
The past few years have seen a seemingly unending succession of events on both the national and international scenes. It is essential in this environment that DRES develop a long-range strategic plan for the future if it is to fulfil its responsibility to the Chief of Research and Development (CRAD) and the rest of the Department of National Defence (DND). The sections of the report that follow comprise the DRES strategic plan, our vision for the future. It begins with a definition of our basic mission and mandate and proceeds to a strategic appreciation of the clients and stakeholders who make up our constituency; it also reflects the environment that is influencing our future relationships. From this appreciation, an action plan is developed with both short and longer term goals, which will provide a direction that will ensure that DRES remains as vital and relevant over its next 50 years as it has been since 1941.
