Abstract
The report presents the results of the first phase of a project to study the underwater acoustic properties of polymeric materials using a parametric array source. It depicts the experimental setup employed at C-CORE and describes the parametric array used in the measurements of the transmission and reflection coefficients. In addition, it gives graphs of the insertion loss and echo reduction (calculated from the transmission and reflection coefficients, respectively) determined from the experiments for standard and non-standard materials. The report also describes how to obtain sound speeds from echo reduction graphs. Finally, it contains sound speeds acquired for some of the thicker materials.
