- Abstract
- The instrument described provides a measure of environmental heat stress on humans. It performs continuously and automatically a weighted summation of the three temperatures required for the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature Index (0.7 natural wet bulb temperature +0.2 black globe temperature +0.1 dry bulb temperature), and presents the index on an electric meter. Silicon diodes sense the temperatures and translate them into direct voltages linearly related to temperature. Solid state electronics and low-drain (1000 hr.) battery operation permit the instrument to be compact and easily portable. The chief limitation on accuracy is meter movement non-linearity, and experience with six units indicates that, over the important part of the scale, an accuracy of ~0.5oF may be realized in a practical instrument.
