Abstract
The preparation and luminescent properties of the phosphor CaSO4:Mn are described in detail. This material shows exceptional sensitivity to ionizing radiation (17 mu rad), and its response as measured by thermoluminescence is essentially linear over a very wide range (more than 9 decades). At room temperature its usefulness as a dosimeter is limited by fading, but this is readily eliminated by refrigeration.
