Abstract
The need to ensure safe navigation using ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) has prompted the development of standards for the presentation of information on electronic charts. In working towards these standards, a workshop was held in Hamburg, Germany in February and March of 1992 by the Colour and Symbols Working Group which is a sub-committee of the International Hydrographic Organization. One of the aims of this workshop was to establish and evaluate the colours and symbols to be used on ECDIS. This report describes the results of the colour calibration required for this workshop before colours could be accurately presented on a CRT (cathode ray tube) display.
