Abstract
The toxicity of British anti-lewisite (BAL) and its antidotal activity in lewisite and heavy metal poisoning is compared with a series of related synthesized thiols. The study used rats administered with radioactive BAL percutaneously and intramuscularly. The history of BAL development and its value as an antidote for arsenic and various other metallic poisonings is summarized.
