IMPLEMENTATION AND ASSESSMENT OF ADDED RESISTANCE PREDICTIONS USING PROGRAM SHIPMO

Abstract
The added resistance strip theory of Salvesen has been implemented into program SHIPMO and evaluated. Relatively good agreement with experiments is obtained for full hull forms (block coefficient = 0.6-0.8) for head seas; however, agreement with experiments is poor for a frigate with a fine hull form (block coefficient = 0.45). Due to the uncertainty in computed wave resistance, it is recommended that the present method not be included in external releases of SHIPMO. An example problem shows that added resistance in heavy seas can be greater than calm water resistance at slow speeds.
