Abstract
The report discusses the capabilities of eight different computer codes for prediction of ship motions and sea loads in waves. The codes range in complexity from relatively simple linear strip theory codes to elaborate three-dimensional nonlinear codes. Brief descriptions of code capabilities are given along with comparisons and recommendations of suitable codes for various applications. Theoretical slamming predictions and experimental data for validation of motion and load predictions in extreme seas are two areas where deficiencies in current capabilities exist.
