Abstract
Addresses the problem of detecting and analyzing a variety of PSK signal formats in the presence of noise. The signal-to-noise ratios of the discrete tones appearing at the outputs of second-order and fourth-order non-linearities are derived, and are used to determine the measurement bandwidth required to achieve given detection statistics. The processor performance requirements are analyzed for FFT-based signal detection. Approaches are proposed for the determination of the modulation characteristics of the input signal from the levels of the discrete tones. The performance of phase-locked loop carrier and data clock recovery circuits is analyzed.
