Abstract
The DREnet Authentication Study was undertaken to investigate client-server authentication techniques that are available within the context of the DREnet/Internet environment and to determine the suitability of these techniques to the client-server applications used in the DREnet. By considering the DREnet environment and the client-server applications most used in the DREnet, a set of criteria were established for comparing client-server authentication techniques. Once these criteria were established, several authentication alternatives were considered and the capabilities of each were compared.
