Abstract
A simple parametric target model fitting algorithm, to give a least squares fit to the observed in-phase and quadrature data across a linear sampled aperture array, is outlined. The performance of this algorithm with various simulated signals and noise levels is presented. In particular, it is shown that this approach is quite robust in the presence of noise. The algorithm was developed for the analysis of data obtained on a large HF sampled aperture receiving array operated near Ottawa. An example of this analysis is given. In this instance a long range signal exhibiting typical ionospheric fading (on individual array elements0 is shown to be resolvable into three stable, coherent components spread over a 2.5 degrees arc.
