Abstract
The project report contains a full description of the proposed Planning and Scheduling Procedures for the CFSS Upgrade. The report is divided into three volumes: Volume I - Background, provides a background overview of the aspects covered including various options; Volume II - Reports and Listings, gathers the relevant reports and listings; Volume III - Specifications, contains a full description of the methods recommended. The aspects described in this report include: Forecasting, Safety Factors, Shortage handling, Related functions and the Supply System Simulator. The main recommendations are: the use of the Distribution Resource Planning approach, with internal time fences and the Risk Inflated Demand concept to guard against demand uncertainties; the classification of the supply items contained in the CFSS into three categories according to their applicable forecasting techniques; the use of safety factor distributions for each one; and the use of a Period Order Quantity lot-sizing method except for operational mobile units where an Order-Up-To system should be used. The handling of repairable items is studied in detail.
