MEASUREMENT OF DRAG ON CYLINDERS BY THE FREE FLIGHT METHOD - EVENT DIAL PACK

Abstract
A free flight technique wherein the test item is free to move under the blast induced forces was applied to obtain the drag coefficient for circular cylinders in Event DIAL PACK. In all the experiments the flow began above the critical Reynolds number and in some of the experiments the flow began above the critical Mach numbers also. As the flow velocity decreased in the decaying blast wave the flow passed through the transition regimes into the subcritical Reynolds and Mach number regimes. A description of the occurrence of these phenomena and their effects on drag is given.
