Abstract
This work will describe the use of acoustic emission to detect fatigue cracks in a full-scale aircraft structure ground durability and damage tolerance testing. Acoustic emission is shown to be successful for the detection of fatigue cracks without the removal of fasteners. The fatigue cracks detected by acoustic emission are confirmed by conventional NDT and measured to be about 1mm deep.
