MFP BENCHMARKING: SUMMARY OF RESULTS

Abstract
An acoustic simulation and matched-field processing system has been developed for the Defence Research Establishment Pacific (DREP) which incorporates several beamforming options. This system was employed to perform MFP on the synthetic benchmarking data using three different beamformers: the conventional or Generalized Bartlett Beamformer (GBB), Minimum Variance (MV), and Modified Reduced Minimum Variance (MRMV). The SOLID normal mode propagation model (SOLID) and a wide-angle parabolic equation (PE) propagation model incorporated in DREP's MFP system were used to generate the replicas of the field. The performance of the three beamformers for all five benchmarking results obtained by other researchers and presented at the Workshop on Acoustic Models in Signal Processing held at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC on May 24-26 1993 are also given in this document.
