Abstract
This review is prepared in response to a request made by DND to review the state-of-the-art in the field of shot-peening to enhance fatigue life and inhibit stress corrosion cracking of aircraft structures; namely, aluminum alloys, high strength alloy steels and titanium alloys. Furthermore, the review examined the modeling of the process, the generation and relaxation of the resulting residual stress field and their adequacy in interpreting the resulting fatigue life improvement of the treated parts. Attention was also devoted to the evaluation of peening residual stresses.
