Abstract
The hydroxyl equivalent weight (HEW) of a prepolymer is of fundamental value for energetic formulation processing. This document describes the application of the infrared absorption spectroscopy to the determination of HEW of prepolymers used as binders in energetic formulations. According to this study, this technique can be applied to polyepichlorohydrin (PECH) type polymers. On the other hand, due to a peculiarity of glycidyl azide polymer (GAP), there is a need for a more statistically sampled size before this technique can be applied as a reliable and universal method to this type of polymers. For the time being, this technique can only be applied indirectly to GAP type binders.
