IMPLEMENTATION OF MULTIPLE-SYMBOL DIFFERENTIAL DETECTION OF BURST DPSK

Abstract
A ground terminal (GT) simulator for an extremely high frequency (EHF) satellite communications (SATCOM) system is being developed as part of the EHF SATCOM project at the Defence Research Establishment Ottawa (DREO). The GT demodulator uses multiple-symbol differential detection of DPSK (MSDPSK), a demodulation technique which estimates the phase reference of DPSK-modulated, burst signal over a sequence of N symbols. This report presents the analysis, design, and implementation of a MSDPSK demodulator. In addition, the report covers all aspects of the implementation for the eventual integration of the demodulator with other ground terminal components. Timing control signals, hardware components, and software programs are discussed.
