Abstract
The Seahorse array is a free-floating, steerable experimental sonar designed to make environmental acoustic measurements in the frequency band of 20 to 50 kHz, as wellas non-acoustic measurements at significantly lower frequencies. The Seahorse Data Formatter (SDF) digitizes two channels of acoustic data at 100 kSPS and generates a series of data frames for transmission via a radio telemetry link. The SDF also inserts RS-232 data into the frames and provides PN scrambing. The SDF also operates in a receive mode where it descrambles the incoming data and extracts the RS-232 data for real-time output.
