Abstract
In spite of the engineering importance of liquid fuel ignition processes at high pressures in Diesel engines and gas turbines, there is very little information in the literature on the effect of pressure on the auto-ignition of droplets and sprays. This paper describes experiments recently begun at the University of Ottawa into the ignition of single hydrocarbon droplets at elevated pressures. The purpose of this work is to support earlier numerical modelling efforts, and in particular to provide data from which the pressure dependence of the reaction rate may be extracted.
