TANDEM MASS SPECTROMETRIC CHARACTERIZATION OF CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENTS

Abstract
Daughter spectra were obtained for the principal electron impact ions of sarin, soman, mustard and tabun during capillary column GC-MS/MS analysis with a hybrid tandem mass spectrometer. The use of standardized collisional activated dissociation cell conditions resulted in the acquisition of reasonably reproducible daughter spectra that would enable data-base generation and subsequent searching. Detection limits for daughter operation were subnanogram with the sensitivity being approximately the same as that obtained during capillary column GC-MS analysis of standards under electron impact ionization conditions.
