THE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF SEISMO-ACOUSTIC DATA: RESULTS FROM DALHOUSIE OCEAN BOTTOM SEISMOGRAPH RECORDINGS DURING CFAV QUEST CRUISE 211

Abstract
This report presents preliminary seismic data from Emerald Basin and Chedabucto Bay recorded during CFAV QUEST Cruise 211 (in December 1993). Seismic arrivals from surface and bottom sources were recorded at horizontal ranges from 0 to 9 km on digital ocean bottom seismometers of Dalhousie University (DDOBS). Background noise measurements were made at the same locations for comparison with coincident recordings by the DREA (ocean) bottom seismometer. Reflection profiles were recorded by a single-channel hydrophone array across the OBS deployment sites. Results of the controlled-source seismic profiles are used to develop a preliminary p-wave velocity model for the sediment layers at each site. Bottom airgun sources are also shown to be effective in producing surface waves within ranges of 1 km.
