LACK OF FUSION STUDY IN HY 100 WELDMENTS

Abstract
Over the past number of years, research has shown the T.I.M.E. Process to be the best process of joining HY 80 to HY 80 and HY 100 to HY100. In fabrication, weld discontinuities are inevitable and the effect of defects for submarine application is worthy of study. The purpose of this investigation was to continue the work by preparing welded HY 100 panels with the T.I.M.E. Process and implanting lack of fusion (LOF) defects for further evaluation by explosion bulge testing. A total of six HY 100 panels were parpared with root and cap LOF of various sizes and lengths. The finished panels were then prepared for explosion bulge testing.
