Abstract
The report is a part of the ongoing research that has been carried out by DREO and CRL to study the multipath effects on a direction finding (DF) system. The present project has been to establish a real DF database and to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the data. A highly advanced eight-element DF system has been used to collect field trial data. Based on the collected data, the development of signal model and the study of the characteristics of the multipath signals were carried out. Furthermore, a number of direction-of-arrival algorithms have been investigated and their performance has also been evaluated based on the real data. The report consists of the following parts: 1. experimental trials; 2. signal modelling; 3. data calibration; 4. analysis of signal characteristics; 5. development and investigation of practical techniques for direction finding; 6. DF performance evaluation. Based on the observations and findings during the course of this work, a number of recommendations are made for future research.
