Abstract
Defence Research Establishment Pacific (DREP) is developing a side-scan sonar system for use on an autonomous vehicle. A preliminary towed-body system was designed and tested in the spring and summer of 1993. It is comprised of components of the Klein 595 Digital Sonar System, most of which have been modified, and in-house components. This combination has produced a high-resolution, low-noise system which performs well as a towed side-scan sonar system. The paper describes the non-proprietary elements of the system and the modifications made to the Klein components, as well as the results of the trials.
