Abstract
The PISCES, proof of concept model of Inter Satellite Communication at EHF for Space based radar, was a program designed to build and test a "simple" proof of concept (POC) model of an inter satellite link operating in the 60 GHz band, developing and/or proving all the essential technologies required for progression to an Engineering Model stage, leading to Flight Hardware Development. The key components targeted for technology development are those operating in the 60 GHz frequency band. These include the final EHF stage in the upconverter and the SSPA in the Tx sub-system, and the 60 GHz BPF, the LNA-EHF Downconverter and the antenna in the Rx subsystem. These are discussed in the following sections. The Tx antenna and the tracking modulator also operate at 60 GHz but were not part of the PISCES technology development because of program cost constraints. The tracking modulator is a key component and a good candidate for any future technology development program, although it must be said that the unit procured off-shore for PISCES performed well.
